Today was the U of U students first day with our residents! We have Joseph, Colby, Shaun and Andrew here for 12 weeks. Today they did exercise, we all went on a walk, then we split into 4 different groups; to learn more about the residents personally, and to teach them new stretches so that each week they will see how much they have improved. Then, we played a “Balloon Volleyball.” We didn’t have a net, so they improvised with a stick and they held it up. We were split into two teams and we had a blast! Then we played a fun game of Jeopardy! Joseph brought in his beautiful Black Lab names Willow. She was so sweet, and all of our residents loved petting and playing with her. We are excited for the U students to be here, and to show us more games and exercises!
Today we learned what it felt like to be an Alaskan seal with blubber! We stuck one hand into a freezing cold tub of ice water, and the other hand in a lined bag of Crisco that was also in ice water. We were able to see that the bag lined with fat does not get cold, as it works as a great insulator for animals with blubber!
Carrington Court knows the power that music has on our residents’ memories, we’ve seen it numerous times. Together we create tailored playlists on iPods to help residents unlock precious moments and memories long tucked away. We are all very excited about the program.
Meet Nancy! She is such a sweet lady. She is always smiling, laughing and singing! She is so much fun to be around. She cares about everyone, and is always looking for something to do! She has made so many friends here at Carrington. We love having her here! In her apartment, she has a map of everywhere she has been in the world, there are about 50 pins as to where she has been! She loves to tell you all about her travels. She loves to help others. She is so smart and loves to talk about her family. We love you Nancy!
“A snowman is love and laughter all rolled up into one.”
Once Their Was a Snowman
“Once there was a snowman,
Who stood outside the door,
He wished that he could come inside,
And run about the floor.
He wished that he could warm himself,
Beside the fire, so red,
He wished that he could climb
Upon the big white bed.
So he called to the North Wind,
“Come and help me, pray,
For I’m completely frozen,
Standing here all day.”
So the North Wind came along,
And blew him in the door,
And now there nothing left,
But a puddle on the floor!”
With all this snow we have, we decided to take advantage of it and get creative! We brought the snow inside and made a snow volcano! Our residents enjoyed watching the volcano erupt over the snow! And then we enjoyed … Continue reading →
